Updated: Mar 13

With Vietnamese students, private accommodation might be a little expensive for them. Here are some choices for them to consider:

University Accommodation (All universities have accommodation and flats for students but they are not unlimited, they need to rent as soon as possible, safe, secure, and high quality)

Spareroom (https://www.spareroom.co.uk/): Check up the room through this website and sort out your room, many choices, and cheap prices. Or Rightmove (https://www.rightmove.co.uk/student-accommodation/Manchester.html), with Vietnamese students, English not the first language make them having issue in looking for rooms on these websites but my these website are worth trying once, the website is trustworthy by many international students as well.

Shared apartment (This choice is being used by most Vietnamese students to split their rent price in case it is too high, finding more friends or roommates to split the total rent price. It is also good for Vietnamese students to have some friends together to reduce loneliness)

Finding jobs for Vietnamese students:

Manchester city has high competition between international and local people to find jobs. But it is also a chance for Vietnamese students to improve and have good-condition jobs.

Check the shop: You can walk around different shops in the town center to see if some shops have recruitment boards.

Internet and social media: Indeed (https://uk.indeed.com/) is also a good website for finding a job in Manchester. Just prepare a detailed CV and apply for the position you want. Not many people in England use Facebook, they use Instagram and Snapchat instead. But with Vietnamese students, Facebook is still one of the most popular social media they use, there are lots of Vietnamese Social Communities called Vietsoc, which are groups for Vietnamese students to catch up on information about jobs, accommodation, and even studies, there are still many senior Vietnamese students who have stay in the UK for a long time and have many experience, these group also provide graduate entry job role and different position.

LinkedIn: The World's largest professional network, there are employers and even university teachers using LinkedIn for their careers, students can do this too. During your study time at university, you will also learn about this website to learn, explore, and enhance your career as well. For Vietnamese students, this website also has professional Vietnamese employers in the UK, and the university also has lots of alumni students here to support you.

University: If you are having a problem and do not know what to do, looking for support from the university is also one choice for you. All universities have Career Hub which provides job entry roles for students based on their major, they also provide part-time jobs as well. You can choose the job you want and apply. If you have no idea just come speak to career staff at the university, they can look at your CV, and give you feedback and recommendations to improve. Stakeholders could be students or universities. All universities have connections to Employers in the UK, so they are also stakeholders in Business as well, so why don’t you try it once, it is for your future anyway.
