Manchester Students Guide Part 2: Shopping and Activities

Updated: Mar 13

Shopping

For shopping, Manchester Arndale and Market Street are two options you will want to visit. Market Street is next to Arndale right when you come out the door through Aldi.

Arndale is also near Chinatown so this is all at once for you to explore, you might spend the whole day here exploring around since it has large spaces.

Arndale is Manchester shopping center and there are different types of stores inside. Arndale and Market Street are very popular already but Trafford Centre is also a nice place for shopping as well. Come to Trafford if you want a peaceful atmosphere.

On some holidays or football matches, Arndale may be full of people around. There are lots of different shops here and part-time jobs available as well.

Don't forget to check high street supermarkets such as Aldi, Tesco, Lidl, and Sainsbury's Local. These are the common supermarkets in England. You can find these shops everywhere in England.

For Vietnamese students who need to buy Vietnamese or Asian ingredients. Manchester has a large Chinese supermarket called Wing Yip, located on Oldham Road. This can be called a center for Vietnamese people because it has lots of Vietnamese ingredients inside such as Pho, noodles, vegetables, fish sauces, and many other related Asian products.

Chinatown in Manchester could also be considered to pay a visit. During the Lunar New Year, this place is always crowded and full of people celebrating their traditions and doing all the things. With Vietnamese students, it may bring a familiar atmosphere to Viet Nam and reduce homesickness. There are loads of supermarkets and restaurants around Chinatown. This is a nice place to have a party or hang out after a long day of study.

Besides the related place for Vietnamese students and Asian culture. For students who want to learn and explore England culture, Manchester also has many places of interest for them. For example John Rylands Library, Science and Industry Museum, Etihad (Manchester City Football Team Stadium), National Football Museum, and Manchester Cathedral. These places are close to each other so you can visit all of them in just one day.
